FAQ
Why does the strap leaves color on my shirt?
Leather products are durable and last for many years, but also have to be taken care accordingly. Specially, more delicate leather items, that come in contact with human sweat, under hot conditions.
It all has to do with the pH levels in our human bodies and the pH levels in leather. The standard scientific measure for levels of acidity or alkalinity in organic material is known as pH, which stands for potential hydrogen.
Normal, optimal pH levels for humans is 7.4. Processed leather pH levels range anywhere from 4.5 to 5.5., which is more acidic. Because of this difference, when sweat soaks into the leather, it can cause a chemical reaction with the leather fibers and some kind of damage and discoloration may occur.
Sweat and body oils need to be removed from leather, but really it can be done simply by wiping down the leather before the sweat and body oils has a chance to seep in.
The leather we use has a layer of leather protective wax , it protects the leather but up to a point. If the sweat soaks the leather and is left there for a a some time we may have the results mentioned above.
The way to protect a leather strap (specially when we feel we sweated a lot) is to wipe the leather with a soft damp cloth and after a while pass a light layer of leather protective cream or wax over it.
